Nakashima Shinjuku Noh Stage was established in 1941, early Showa period. In 2022, Smappa!Group perchased the building and renamed it ‘Shinjuku Kabuki-cho Noh Stage.’ The space is dedicated to promote Japanese culture to both domestic and international audience. Currently the stage is used for Noh lesson by the general holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property, Shizuo Nakashima from Kanze school. We also welcome anyone who is interested in hosting cultural and tourism related event, such as traditional performance show case, exhibitions, etc. Email for inquiry.

Nakashima Shizuo

Nakashima Shizuo なかしま しずお

Born in 1950, Tokyo. As the oldest son of former master Seiko Nakajima, Shizuo studied under his father and 25th generation of Kanze school, Kanze Sakon. For over 40 years he toured at reoccurring Kanze Noh showcase, specializing Jiutai, the Noh chorus that facing stage, seated in two rows on the Jiutai-za. He also played a main role internationally at vocal only Noh showcase, facilitated by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan throughout the world; United States of America, China, Russia and Switzerland. Around 1977, Shizuo inherited Seifu-kai from late master Seiko Nakajima, since then he has been dedicated to teaching and performing for Noh enthusiast for over 40 years.
